George C. Mayfield
Director and Founder

My name is George C. Mayfield, director and founder. I’ve been doing art since the early 1970s and have completed several commissions, including a portrait of Martin Luther King Jr. for the Black Historical Society of Kansas City and the King Center for Nonviolent Change, as well as a portrait of Governor John Carlin presented during his term in Kansas office.

My artwork has been exhibited by the Kansas Historical Research Center Museum and the Kansas State Capitol, including an original portrait of Edward R. McCabe, the first Black elected official in Kansas. Two of my paintings are permanently displayed in the Kansas Historical Museum and the State Capitol of Kansas.
